Sochaczew – a city where history, cultural heritage and dynamic development come together

Located in central Poland, on the Bzura River, just 50 kilometres from Warsaw – the capital of Poland – Sochaczew is a city where tradition meets modernity. More than eight centuries of history have left a remarkable legacy, including the ruins of the Castle of the Dukes of Mazovia, which proudly overlooks the city, as well as numerous monuments and places that preserve the rich heritage of the region.

Sochaczew is also a unique tourist destination. The city serves as a gateway to Kampinos National Park, one of Poland’s most valuable natural areas. Nearby Żelazowa Wola is the birthplace of Frédéric Chopin, the world-famous composer whose music attracts culture enthusiasts from around the world to the region every year.

One of the city’s greatest attractions is the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, which houses one of the largest collections of historic narrow-gauge railway rolling stock in Europe. Sochaczew is also proud to preserve its cultural heritage – unique symbols connected with local history and creators are becoming part of the city’s public space. One such symbol is the monument to Boniface the Cat, a beloved character from the iconic Polish animated series The Adventures of Filemon the Cat, which was co-created by Marek Nejman, a native of Sochaczew.
